FIVE hundred scones are to be handed out to some of the most vulnerable people in and around Edinburgh thanks to the RBS foodbank appeal backed by the Evening News.

More than 200 plain and fruit scones were donated by the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Bread Street and another 300 have been baked by the cooks at RBS headquarters at Gogarburn. Now they are to be distributed by the Cyrenians Fareshare charity to individuals and families struggling during the lockdown,

RBS said it was also handing over bread rolls donated by the hotel and a big batch of soup.

Cyrenians head of social enterprise Neil Hay said: “We are extremely grateful for the support from RBS. Their generosity allows us to reach out to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities as well as key-workers delivering critical services

“The impact Covid-19 has had on those we support is huge. We are working hard to ensure that no-one goes without food in this time of crisis and support from RBS has meant we’re able to share resources even further.

“Through emergency food parcels, delivering large loads of food across central and South East Scotland to community hubs, and delivering prepared meals we are not only meeting the immediate need of individuals, but ensuring that during such a critical time, food is not wasted needlessly.”
