The positive COVID test was confirmed by Fife Council which said it was following public health advice.

Shelagh McLean, head of education and children’s services, said: “We are taking all appropriate actions.

“A joint letter from us and NHS Fife was issued to all parents and carers at the end of last week to keep them informed.”

The authorities have been in touch with the child and their family, and anyone they may have come into contact with, advising them to self isolate.

Lynn Burnett, nurse consultant in health protection, said: “We appreciate that members of the public may be concerned about any new community cased. However, we want to re-assure people that the risk of contracting coronavirus remains low.”

She said well-established procedures were in place to trace close contacts.
