McDonald’s restaurants are due to open today across the UK for walk in customers for the first time since lockdown began.

The restaurant’s Princes Street branch towards the west end and Livingston’s designer outlet branch will both open their doors for walk-in customers, though will offer no dine in facilities.

The stores will have perspex screens to protect the staff, toilets will not be open and customers will be asked to take their rubbish away with them as recycling points will also be closed.

There will also be a limit to the number of people allowed in the branch at one time.

Customers are encouraged to visit alone.

A total of 280 McDonald’s branches will open today, with 42 of them serving breakfast.

Paul Pomroy, chief executive officer for McDonald's UK and Ireland, said, "As with our main menu, we will have a limited menu at breakfast but we’ve kept the classics – hash browns, McMuffins and pancakes all return.

"Unfortunately, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to serve porridge, bagels and our Breakfast Wrap. This is because we have fewer people in the kitchen."

This comes 20 days after the company opened their drive through service.

McDonald’s was forced to shut its restaurants across the UK due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
