Yousaf insists self-isolation exemptions are not compulsory

Health secretary Humza Yousaf has stressed that no exemption to the self-isolation requirement for health and social care workers is compulsory.

The confirmation comes after unions raised concerns over healthcare staff being “pressured” into returning to work amid high rates of absences.

New guidelines were released on Friday which allow employers of staff in key national infrastructure, including health, transport and food supply, to apply for exemptions to self-isolation requirements for workers who are contacts of a positive Covid case.

Alan Cumming tests positive for Covid in New York

Alan Cumming, the award-winning Scottish star of Hollywood and Broadway, has revealed he has tested positive for Covid despite being double-vaccinated.

The New York-based singer, actor and writer was due to fly to London this week ahead of planned appearances at the Edinburgh International Festival next month.

However the 56-year-old, who shot to fame in the stage show Cabaret, is now self-isolating.
