The pupil continues to have mild symptoms and is currently isolating at home with other household members.

Parents received a message last night informing them that those in the child’s class must stay off school today (September 1), Edinburgh Live reported.

The health board said there is no evidence to suggest any onward transmission within the school at this stage and that contacts of the confirmed case are being informed.

Public health investigation and assessment of the contacts is ongoing.

Dr Esther Curnock, deputy director of public health for NHS Fife, said: “We appreciate that both pupils and parents may be concerned, however, the risk of contracting coronavirus remains low.

“Contact tracers from the Test and Protect Team are currently in the process of identifying and tracing those who have come into close contact with the positive case to provide appropriate public health support and advice.

“We continue to encourage anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, to get tested using the UK Government Citizens’ Portal or by calling 0800 028 2816.

"Individuals can choose whether to attend one of the UK Government testing sites or request a home testing kit to be delivered to their home.”

Shelagh McLean, head of education and children's services for Fife Council, added: "We are following Public Health advice and talking with our colleagues in NHS Fife about actions required regarding Covid-19.

"With their direction, we are taking all appropriate actions, including that relating to Test & Protect and contact with any confirmed case linked to one of our schools.
