Screen legend Richard E Grant has joined the chorus of performers asking for Edinburgh’s beloved King’s Theatre to be saved.

The Oscar nominated actor begs people to support the “grand old lady of Leven Street” adding: “the thought that we might never see the legend that is Andy Gray in panto making comedy gold out of one word: balloon.

“Please support them.”

Scottish panto star Andy Gray tweeted the video on Thursday evening.

The King’s Theatre, run by Capital Theatres, has been hit hard during coronavirus and a fundraiser has been set up to save it from closure, which has raised just over £60,000.

Other stars campaigning for the legendary venue’s survival include panto and radio star Grant Stott, Scottish actor Brian Cox and Edinburgh author Ian Rankin.

Capital Theatres also run the Festival Theatre and The Studio and they raise 90% of their revenue through ticket sales.

All Scottish theatres have been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
