The zoo has been temporarily closed.

Like most of the capital’s attractions, Edinburgh Zoo has been temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The zoo was closed on Sunday following government advice about coronavirus and social distancing.

Memberships have been extended by one month free of charge.

Staff remain at the park to care for the animals.

However, zoo lovers can still keep up with the animals while maintaining a safe distance from home, by tuning into the zoo’s live web cams.

There are live cams trained on the zoo’s penguins, the Rockhopper penguins, the pandas, koalas and tigers.

The zoo has been inundated by people wanting to view the web cam and has experienced some technical difficulties due to the volume of traffic.

They advice that if the web cam doesn’t load, you can check out the zoo’s YouTube channel or Facebook page for an animal video fix.

Some areas of enclosures are outside the view of the cameras, so you may not be able to see the pandas or tigers all the time.

In this case the zoo’s advice is to check back later, and in the meantime to have a look at another of the animal cameras.

Edinburgh zoo is home to two Giant Pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, both on loan from China for 10 years.

There is just one tiger, femle Dharma.

Koalas Goonaroo, Alinga, Kalari and Tanami were recently joined by a joey, who the zoo has recently announced is female.
