West Lothian Council brings in new PPE policy for staff

West Lothian Council’s Executive has introduced revised Health and Safety Policy for staff over the use of PPE.

New rules will also come in to protect staff on constructions sites.

The council has responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all its employees at work and others who may be affected by its acts or omissions. It follows general guidance published by the Health and Safety Executive.

The Executive was advised that there were no significant regulatory changes but elements of the policy were expanded and strengthened.

The new rules provide updated guidance on the use of PPE, which has become much more widespread since the Covid outbreak began.

Other guidance updates and expands on existing safety rules for construction sites.

West Lothian Council Leader Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: “The council has a responsibility for all of its employees and those who use its services."

The revised policy was crafted in consultation with trade unions.
