A staff member at popular Edinburgh bar, Montepeliers, in Bruntsfield, has tested positive for coronavirus, management confirmed.

In an open letter to customers this afternoon, the business said it would close for 24 hours while all staff undergo testing and the building is deep cleaned.

Health Protection teams from NHS Lothian will now begin attempts to identify customers who might have come into contact with the infected member of staff.

A message posted on the Montpeliers Facebook page this afternoon read: “Dear Montpeliers customers, we have just been notified that one of our team has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Once we were informed today, we took the decision to close for 24 hours.

“All our staff will now be tested and our building will be deep cleaned and ‘fogged’ prior to reopening.

“We have taken advice from NHS Scotland and Edinburgh Council and will work with their Health Protection Teams to contact anyone who may be at risk under Test and Protect.

“It is extremely important for the safety of our staff and customers, that we take these necessary precautions and we will reopen our doors as soon as it’s safe to do so.

“We will be in touch with any bookings that are affected by this.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming everyone back and we thank you for all your loyalty and support.
