New chiropractice clinic in Penicuik

A chiropractor who specialises in pregnant women and newborns is setting up a new clinic in her front garden.

Dr Naomi Mills aims to open the clinic for people living in the Penicuik area after moving to Braehead, south of the town.

An application for planning permission to build the practice at her home has been given the go-ahead by Midlothian Council.

It will be run by Dr Mills, who, planning officers were told, moved to Scotland after running a successful practice in Radcliffe-on-Trent, near Nottingham.

Planning officers approved the application after ruling that the clinic met the standards set out in the local authority’s policy for new development in the countryside.

The officers’ report said: “Development opportunities that will enhance rural economic development opportunities will be permitted if they are of a scale and character appropriate to the rural area and well integrated into the rural landscape.”

It added: “The building will be of a slightly smaller scale than the existing buildings and will be set back from the A701 in a similar fashion to the two existing houses.

“The building will appear in the landscape as part of an existing group of buildings and will be well integrated into the rural landscape.

“A chiropractic clinic of this scale will not have a detrimental impact on the amenity of residential neighbours.”
