Speaking at her daily press briefing, the First Minister confirmed that there were no new deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours.

It mean the total death toll of people who tested positive for Covid-19 has stayed at 2,491 for 22 days.

Confirmed cases of the virus have now reached 18,890, after an increase of 43 on the day before.

Nicola Sturgeon strongly criticised Aberdeen FC players who were exposed to coronavirus after visiting a bar in the city on Saturday night.

Ms Sturgeon said 27 of the new cases were in the NHS Grampian region, but said it was unclear how many were linked to the Aberdeen cluster.

The number of patients in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus stands at 262 - eight fewer than yesterday.

Four people are now being treated for the virus in Scotland’s intensive care units.

Ms Sturgeon also said that the Scottish government was adding three more countries to its travel quarantine list. From tomorrow, people returning to Scotland from Belgium, Andora, and The Bahamas will have to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

She also strongly rebuked a group of professional football players from Aberdeen FC. Two players tested positive for coronavirus, and six others have been in close proximity with them, after the group visited a bar in Aberdeen on Saturday night.

"In doing so,” Ms Sturgeon said, “they blatantly broke the rules that had been agreed between the SFA the SPFL, and the Scottish government, which – to put it mildly – is completely unacceptable.”

Earlier it was confirmed that the match between Aberdeen FC and St Johnstone FC, scheduled for tomorrow, will not go ahead.

"We are expecting members of the public to behave in a highly precautionary manner right now,” Ms Sturgeon said, “and when a football club ends up with players infected with Covid...through clear breaches of the rules, you cannot take even a small risk to spread the infection.”
