'Toevid19' - Residents in luxury Quartermile apartments warned after being caught on camera using feet to open doors and lifts

But residents in one luxury apartment complex in Edinburgh appear to be taking more extreme measures to avoid contracting the coronavirus.

A notice above a door exit button in a building in the Quartermile area, near the Meadows, reads: "It has been brought to our attention via CCTV that a number of residents are presenting their feet, with and without shoes/socks, to press door release exit buttons and lift buttons throughout the development."

The message, from estate management team Speirs Gumley, continues: "This is unacceptable behaviour, not only is it unhygienic but also inconsiderate to other residents, staff and visitors using their hands on these touch points. Please cease from this action with immediate effect.

"We understand that health and safety risks are heightened at present, and as such these touch points are cleaned daily by the on site cleaning team. Should you still feel uncomfortable touching these buttons then we would politely request the use of gloves, your sleeve, elbow or another clean apparatus instead."

A picture of the notice was shared on social media by best-selling Edinburgh crime writer, Ian Rankin, along with his caption which said: "I am surrounded, it seems, by people who are far more limber..."

Many people were clearly entertained by the post from the author, who is best known for his Inspector Rebus novels.
