Watch as huge queues gather on the first day of drive through flu jabs in Edinburgh

A drive through flu vaccination clinic in Holyrood RC High School on Duddingston Road West has drawn queues stretching back the A1 on its first day.

A video shows the line of cars stretching back to the Duddingston cross roads, and another onlooker said that it continued all the way down Milton Road West to the A1.

Three cars are being dealt with at one time at the school, and a member of staff monitoring the traffic at the site has said that the queue should start to move quicker as the day goes on.

The site opened at 9am on Saturday morning, with some cars turning up early.

It will be running both Saturday and Sunday every weekend until its last day on November 1.

Those eligible for a flu vaccination include anyone aged 65 and over, anyone aged 18-64 in clinical risk groups, those living with people shielding, pregnant women and unpaid and young carers.

Specific times have been allocated to people depending on surname.

A spokesperson for the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership said: "Today was the first time that the flu vaccination programme has been delivered at Holyrood High School and whenever we use a new site it's not uncommon to experience teething problems on the opening day.

"People have turned up in large numbers however our dedicated health teams are working really hard to administer the vaccines as quickly as possible and we've also directed people our other sites which aren't as busy.

"There are many opportunities available for anyone who may not be vaccinated today so please check the NHS Inform website or your practice website. We are just two weeks into our programme to deliver 100,000 vaccinations over the coming months and feedback has been

overwhelmingly positive so far.
