Didier Agathe's time at Hibs was short but eventful.

Signed from Raith Rovers on a short-term deal in the summer of 2000, the Frenchman missed a sitter in the opening game of the season - an Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle.

Manager Alex McLeish kept faith in him and he scored twice in a 3-0 win against Dundee United the following week, holding onto his place for the visit of Dundee on August 12.

Under the stewardship of player/manager Ivano Bonetti the Dark Blues had brought in several players from overseas and it was one such signing, former Arsenal loanee Fabian Caballero, who gave Dundee a ninth-minute lead at Easter Road.

Georgi Nemsadze cut the ball back for the Argentinian striker and he had all the time in the world to finish powerfully in the bottom corner.

The Dens Park side had won their opening two matches against Motherwell and Dunfermline, keeping clean sheets in both. Was lightning about to strike for a third time?

Not on Agathe's watch. The unconventional forward received a pass from Russell Latapy and drove at the Dundee defence, jinking his way past four players before poking the ball past Rab Douglas to level the scores on 16 minutes.

The goal sparked Hibs into action, and they could have taken the lead moments later when Mixu Paatelainen sent a header just wide of the goal.

Hibs scented blood and on the half-hour mark had the chance to take the lead from the spot after Marco de Marchi had brought down Tom Smith but Latapy saw his penalty smartly saved by Douglas.

Latapy and Agathe combined again just before the interval. The Trinidadian slipped the ball into the striker's path and he unleashed a swerving effort past Douglas for his, and Hibs’ second of the afternoon.

Things went from bad to worse for Dundee in first-half stoppage time when Caballero was given his marching orders for elbowing Mathias Jack after a reckless challenge from the Hibs midfielder.

The hosts failed to increase their lead despite the man advantage although Franck Sauzee, Jack, and O’Neil all had half-chances.

Dundee came close to an equaliser when Bonetti threaded the ball through for Juan Sara but despite taking the ball round Nick Colgan, Paul Fenwick was on hand to clear the danger with a timely intervention.

Despite signs of a revival by the visitors, Hibs put the game to bed ten minutes from the end. Substitute Dirk Lehmann scored twice in two minutes before fellow sub Stuart Lovell put the gloss on a scoreline which arguably flattered Hibs.

Agathe didn't score for Hibs again but had already made his mark. He played just three more games before being snapped up by Celtic for £27,000.
