A Burns supper drive-thru is opening in Musselburgh on January 25th

It's a concept normally associated with fast-food and coffee chains...

But this Saturday a Burns Supper drive-thru is opening in Musselburgh for anyone looking to celebrate our national bard a little differently.

The drive-thru is being run by the National Trust for Scotland at Newhailes House and Gardens, from 3:30pm to 6:30pm on Saturday.

A notice shared by the National Trust on social media says: "Enjoy a Burns Supper with a twist at the first-ever Newhailes Burns Supper Drive Thru.

"Drive into Newhailes Estate, order your meal and then enjoy in the comfort of your own car. You may even happen across a bit of poetry or a song."

For £6.50 try the Burns haggis supper which features haggis, chappit neeps and mashes tatties with a whisky sauce, followed by a Tunnock's Teacake, all washed down with a can of Irn Bru. There is also a vegetarian version of this.

Haggis bon bons, skinny fries and a mustard mayo dip, with Irn Bru, is also available for £6.25.

For the children you can order chicken goujons, smiley faces, Tunnock's Teacake and Irn Bru for £4.50.

Clare Grant, the National Trust for Scotland’s operations manager for Edinburgh, said: "We’re delighted to share this innovative, fun way to commemorate Scotland’s Bard.

"Burns wasn’t averse to a bit of fun and wasn’t a fan of convention, so I’m sure he’d approve. With busy lifestyles, most people won’t have a chance to attend a formal Burns Supper – this way they can enjoy their own mini-celebration with the best ingredients assured. And there’s plenty for everyone – there’s no need to race to the drive-thru to keep an appointment with the Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!"

The drive-thru is welcome to cars, motorbikes, cyclists and walkers.
