NHS staff offered free breakdown recovery: here’s how to claim
Recovery service Green Flag has extended the offer to all NHS employees to say thank you for their work during the Covid-19 crisis.
It means that any NHS worker whose car breaks down on the way to or from work can call a dedicated line to arrange assistance. The cover includes breakdowns at home, on the road or at work.
A spokesperson for Green Flag said: “Green Flag is offering this service to NHS workers in order to express thanks and support during this difficult time, and to acknowledge the extraordinary and selfless work that those in our National Health Service are committed to.”
Those in need of this service can call 0800 051 0009 to request a call out. You do not need to have Green Flag membership to use the service. Full details can be found on the Green Flag website.
To qualify you must be an NHS employee - volunteers are unfortunately not covered - and give your NHS ID number when requesting assistance. You will also have to show your NHS ID card to the technician to prove you are eligible.
The service will attend breakdowns at home, work or on the road and attempt to get your vehicle going again. If this isn’t possible transport will be arranged to get you to work or home and your vehicle will be recovered to a garage.
If parts are required for a repair, you are liable for the cost and the cover doesn’t extend to problems caused by collisions or misfuelling - both of which should be handled by your car insurer.
Existing Green Flag customers can use the service without any impact on their current policy.
