Edinburgh restaurant Six by Nico's time travelling new menu turns the clock back on 2019 favourites

The votes are in, the best of 2019 have been announced

Diners of Edinburgh have spoken and concept tasting restaurant Six by Nico is now serving up the voter’s picks for their Best of 2019 menu.

The menu, which started on Tuesday, sees Chef Nico Simeone and his team remake some of the most memorable dishes from the past 12 months with influences coming from across the world.

Throughout 2019, guests enjoyed menus themed around Thai Street Food to The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, from Paris to New York, journeyed on The Orient Express across Europe as well as digging into life’s Guilty Pleasures.

The six course menu will consist of Bombas; from the Catalonia menu made of jamon bombas, smoked chilli compote and aioli, Butternut Spring Roll; straight from the Thai Street Food menu and created using Thai green sauce, charred sweetcorn and pickled shimiji mushroom.

Third course on the menu is from the Paris menu and diners will enjoy Beef Bourguignon made with ox cheek, mushroom duxelle, shallot and bacon crumb and red wine.

Travelling on to the Orient Express menu for course four guests can expect to be treated to Milan - a sea bass dish with peperonata, roasted aubergine and olive and caper dressing.

Thai Street Food was a favourite again in the fifth dish which is penang chicken made with sweet potato, papaya and peanut salad and coriander emulsion.

For dessert, Paris is revisited with an indulgent creme brulee teamed with raspberry, rose and lychee, pink peppercorn meringue and brown sugar.

Chef Nico Simeone said: “Every year, our development team collectively create hundreds of dishes for our tasting menus. From noodles to steak and pastries to soup, our menus have been eclectic and tasty.

"For our first menu of 2020, we invited the public to vote (via Six by Nico social channels) on the six dishes they enjoyed most in 2019 to create a six-course tasting menu that includes the top picks of the year – all voted for by our hungry customers!"

The Best of 2019 menu will run until 16 February and the menu is priced at £29 per person.
