These are the six Edinburgh libraries which are set to reopen their doors

Six Edinburgh libraries are set to reopen their doors on Tuesday.

The phased plan will see Central, Fountainbridge, Stockbridge, McDonald Road, Newington and Kirkliston libraries welcome readers back to thee book-shelves once more.

Numbers in the library will be capped and face coverings are mandatory.

While pre-booking online or by phone is essential for certain visits, such as borrowing books and using public computers, returning books will not require booking.

Culture and Communities Convener, Cllr Donald Wilson, said: “It’s a really positive step forward that these six libraries are opening to the public ahead of schedule as they are invaluable resources for our local communities.

“Libraries are vital in any democratic society, giving access to knowledge and literature, helping to bridge the digital divide and also centres for strengthening local communities.”

The opening of libraries is part of a wider reopening schedule which will permit community access to school sport facilities next month.
