The Johnnie Walker development is set to open on Princes Street this year, and is currently has a job that many whisky fans would love.

In early 2019 it was announced that Diageo was going to transform the former House of Fraser building on Edinburgh’s famous Princes Street into a Johnnie Walker experience billed as ‘one of world’s great whisky attractions’.

Featuring two roof top bars – the 1820 bar and the Explorers’ Bothy – a flagship retail store, a variety of interactive tours, exclusive tasting experiences and much more, Johnnie Walker Princes Street is set to offer the ultimate whisky experience for guests from home and abroad.

Three floors will be devoted to a “multi-sensory visitor experience” charting two centuries of the whisky brand’s heritage going back to its origins in Kilmarnock,

The building’s iconic clock, which dates back to 1931 when the Binns department store opened, will be restored in recognition of the building’s long heritage as a meeting point on Princes Street.

In early 2020 the brand announced that it was hiring over 160 roles, including brand ambassadors and retail staff, and now, a year on, they’re looking for a head bartender.

Posting on job sites, the Johnnie Walker advert states that this is a chance to “be involved in an ambitious and truly one-of-a-kind team.”

The head bartender role requires someone that is “passionate about the drinks culture and be one of the best mixologists and menu creators in the business”.

It continues: “You’ll supervise and coordinate a world-class team of Bartenders, driving the highest standards and providing an amazing customer experience by engaging and exciting our visitors with your skills, knowledge and personality.

“Maintaining stock and ordering supplies is also part of your role, ensuring constant replenishment of our high-quality products.”

The successful candidate will work closely with the wider food and beverage department and all of the team to ensure visitors have a “world class and bespoke experience.”

Creative applicants should note that the business is looking for a “key player in creating our new drinks menu and will ensure you are up to date with local market and international trends to cater for all visitors.”

The role involves evenings and weekend shifts, and the closing date is 14 February.
