Eat out to help out Edinburgh: restaurants offering 50% off in August - and how to use Postcode Checker to find more in Scotland

Diners across Scotland have been able to tuck into discounted meals throughout August thanks to the UK government’s new Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

Thousands of pubs, restaurants and cafes signed up to the scheme, which grants 50 per cent off meals and non-alcoholic drinks, up to the value of £10 per head.

The 50 per cent discount is available for a limited period only, up until 31 August.

The offer applies on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays, and can be claimed at any participating eateries.

Several popular brands have been offering the discount, allowing diners to enjoy cut price food and drink at the likes of Nando’s, Costa, McDonald’s, KFC and Wetherspoons, among others throughout the month.

A number of local, independent eateries have also been getting involved, and in some cases, restaurants are offering the Eat Out to Help Out discount on top of already low prices, thanks to the VAT cut.

VAT was reduced from 20 per cent to just five per cent for businesses in the hospitality and tourism sector, meaning in some instances diners count benefit from two discounts.
