A homely cafe in the Old Town has made it into a worldwide list of top restaurants according to TripAdvisor, after it scooped a Traveller’s Choice Award.

Quinn’s, on West Port, discovered the news this week, posting on their Facebook page: “Wow, can’t believe it, Quinn’s has been voted in the top 10 per cent in the world. Thank you to all of our customers. Pop in if you are in the area.”

Since opening on August 27, 2020, Mike has faced difficult times but managed to keep the business going during the pandemic and cost of living crisis.

Since news of their plaudit earlier in the year when the cafe took top spot as the best in Edinburgh, Kevin said it upped the pressure. But it has continued to pull in the customers proving massively popular with locals and tourists alike.

Mike said: “We had made it to the top as best for breakfast in Edinburgh earlier this year, but had slipped down to number two.

“Then we worked our way back up to number one and we’re in the top 10 per cent worldwide. I’m ecstatic.”

“Ever since we opened people have enjoyed what we offer. I’m very hands on and I’m always making sure things are up to standard. We serve up a traditional breakfast and that seems to hit the spot.

“The main thing for me is the way we make people feel. We have a welcoming and homely atmosphere and I think people leave satisfied that they’ve had that positive experience,

it’s about more than just a bite to eat. I take time to check on everything and chat to people.”

Mike said he’s stunned that his humble cafe is in the top ten per cent.

“As for making it into the top 10% on TripAdvisor, I still don’t really understand. There’s Michelin star restaurants in Edinburgh that aren’t on it.

TripAdvisor described the award as: “Recognising businesses that consistently deliver great service. You’re part of an exclusive group, ranking among the top 10 per cent of listings on TripAdvisor.”
