Edinburgh Evening News Restaurant Awards 2020: This is how you can vote for your Capital favourites

Nominations are now open for the Edinburgh Evening News Restaurant Awards 2020 and readers are being given the chance to vote for their favourite restaurant based on a number of categories.

Now in its third successful year, the readers can nominate their top eateries for free online to be considered by an expert judging panel later this year who will whittle down the shortlist.

There are several categories this year, each which will be uniquely judged on different criteria.

Chef of the Year, sponsored by Chef Works International will have judges considering presentation, attention to detail, cooking skills used, taste and knowledge, the Fine Dining Experience will be judged by service, quality of food, presentation, taste, and ingredients, the Best Newcomer can expect to have their successes to date considered as well as first impressions and originality, the award for Best Cafe/Deli will have their quality and variety of of hot drinks, time spent to be served, quality of food and value for money taken into account.

The Best Value for Money restaurant will have judges looking at the atmosphere and menu while Best Pub Grub will also have comfort considered. Other categories include Best Street Food, Best Vegetarian/Vegan, Best Seafood, Best Customer Service, Best Family Friendly, Edinburgh’s Hidden Gem, and the coveted top Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year award.

Nominations are currently open until 22 March 2020 and are free to enter online with the winners of each award to be announced at a glittering ceremony on Monday 27 April 2020.

Due to the popularity of the event in previous years, the awards have moved and instead of taking place in the Principle on George Street, will now be held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa.

Last year’s top award of Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year went to Fhior, which also snapped up the Edinburgh Sommelier of the Year award.The Hidden Gem category, a favourite amongst readers, will be put to a public vote as it was last year.

At the awards last year, Edinburgh Evening News editor Euan McGrory said: “The Edinburgh restaurant scene is one of our great success stories and they’re not just a joyful indulgence for those of us lucky enough to live in Edinburgh and the Lothians but they’re increasingly important to the city’s economy.

“Many visitors who come to the city these days come just as much for the food and drink as for the castles and cobbles.”
