Now, an Edinburgh brewery has penned a love letter to the joys of the humble pint – and pledged free beer to its favourite bars to help them come out of lockdown.

Innis and Gunn said it wanted to support pubs and “secure their future” as they come out of the business freeze and help promote the “community and friendship” often forged at the pub.

The brewery has released its ‘Remembering Pints’ message with a short film touring the deserted watering holes of the capital.

There it pays tribute to the “568millilitres of cold liquid gold” and the pubs full of “couples chatting and groups of fools” as well as the Saturday session lovers to the after-work drinkers and those who have had one too many.

Several Edinburgh pubs feature in the campaign, including Teuchters Landing on Dock Place, The Pear Tree on West Nicolson Street, the Cask and Barrel on Broughton Street, Roseleaf on Sandport Place and Tiles on St Andrew Square.

A statement from the brewery said: “Back when lockdown started we wanted to find a way to support pubs and speak with people who, like us, missed having a pint in the pub with their friends. So we created Remember Pints, our love letter to those 20 fluid ounces, all created during lockdown.

“We're supporting pubs we love, giving them beer for when it's pouring again, so we can all enjoy the community and friendship they give us – that’s something we’ll all need once our pubs reopen.”
