The new shop in Easter Road was originally planned to be a restaurant but the pandemic made the owners rethink what their customers want.

Owners Rachel Morgan and Emily Cuddeford now want to focus on offering “top-notch produce” for people to cook at home alongside their popular sourdough, cakes and pastries.

Shelves inside are lined with produce from trusted local suppliers including fresh meats, charcuterie and cheese from Leith’s East Coast Cured, organic vegetables from East Lothian’s Phantassie Farm and honey from The Edinburgh Honey Company.

Takeaway dishes and coffees are also being served through the hatch on the street as well as soft serve ice cream, made with organic milk from Mossgiel Farm in East Ayrshire.

Inside, there will be an open-plan kitchen and chef Joe Haworth is developing dishes for the store and seasonal “popup” dinners to be served through the street hatch. These will include curries, homemade pasta and gnocchi served with oxtail ragu, simple pestos and the likes of pumpkin with parmesan,

Pies will also be a regular feature with a classic mini pork pie available daily and weekly changing vegetable and meat varieties from pumpkin, feta and tomato to braised goat, mint, oregano and preserved lemon.

The Easter Road store is close to Montgomery Street Park and Holyrood Park, which the owners say make it ideal for picnic provisions too.

The store is open from 8:30am to 6pm Wednesday to Sunday.
