Greggs to launch nationwide delivery service in 2020 following successful trials with Deliveroo and Just Eat
Greggs fans can soon look forward to getting baked goods delivered straight to their door as the chain is set to launch a nationwide delivery service.
The roll-out of a delivery service across the UK follows successful trials with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.
Pastries, cakes and sausage rolls will soon be available to order for delivery, as Greggs plans to partner with one delivery platform later this year.
The popular bakery chain has been trialling the service with various food ordering platforms since 2017, having had several stints with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.
Newcastle, London, Birmingham and Glasgow were among the seven cities where the service was trialled, but the chain plans to roll it out across the UK later this year after partnering with one delivery platform.
In a trading update this week, Greggs chief executive Roger Whiteside told City A.M.: “What we have been doing for more than a year is trialling in different places and different partners and we have learned enough to decide that we are interested in rolling out across the country.”
The chain is “very close” to announcing its plans to expand its delivery presence across the UK, Whiteside said.
Coming this year?
Greggs is yet to confirm the exact date for the nationwide delivery service will launch, it is hoped to be up and running in 2020.
The chain is also to confirm which cities it will definitely deliver too when the service is rolled out.
In addition, Greggs also has plans to extend the operating hours of more of its branches in an effort to capture the 6pm to 9pm market, which it hopes will be an equally popular delivery time.
