Innis and Gunn reveals Leith as location of new bar opening

Craft brewer Innis and Gunn is set to open its second bar in Edinburgh – in the popular Shore district.

The Capital-based firm has submitted a planning application to put up new signage and carry out some repainting work at the former premises of popular cafe Finn and Bear on The Shore.

In May, the fast-growing company applied for planning for Edinburgh’s first major brewery in 150 years at at Heriot-Watt University’s Research Park to the west of Edinburgh.

The latest opening will bring the firm’s total number of bars in Scotland to four, following the creation of the Innis and Gunn Taproom on Lothian Road and two other venues in Dundee and Glasgow.

Innis and Gunn looks set to open another new bar in Edinburgh.

The application for new light signage at The Shore venue, as well as a chalk board, looks set to be approved by city planners. Finn and Bear, which is owned by the team behind The Pantry in Stockbridge, announced its closure in March.

The planning documents said: “The proposed alterations are minimal, appropriate to the building, its use and the surrounding area and proposed additional signage is of quality construction, as such we consider that the alterations proposed will not significantly alter the character of the listed building.

“It is requested that the application be granted.”

Plans for the new brewery are currently also under consideration by city planners, a process which could take until September.

As well as brewing the brand’s flagship Lager Beer and The Original, the brewery will include a high-speed canning and bottling line and will enable the company to consolidate all currently outsourced production under one roof.

Innis and Gunn have not yet responded to a request for comment about the new bar.
