The Chippy By Spencer, brought to life by former executive group chef at Vittoria, Spencer Wilson, opened its doors last week and has been satisfying locals since with its range of traditional and creative fish and chip dishes.

The site’s former business, Cafe Rapido, is undoubtedly a hard act to follow – having catered to Edinburgh’s late night crowd by serving cheap fish and chips well into the wee hours. But The Chippy By Spencer looks to establish itself in its own right as a luxury chippy proving a hit with hungry locals.

Catering to a range of customers, The Chippy presents a fresh variety of fish suppers, fritters and wraps, with everything from ‘the sea dog’ (battered haddock served in a hot dog roll, coated in chipotle mayo and fried onion) to Stornaway black pudding fritters, salt and pepper squid and veggie haggis fritters.

Vegans will also find their cravings satisfied by the site’s vegan fish and chips, which presents roasted aubergine wrapped in seaweed, deep fried and served with vegan tartar sauce for £6.50.

The star of the show, however, is perhaps its mixed fish supper, bringing together two battered haddock bites, two breaded haddock goujons, three lots of Whitby scampi, six squid rings and two breaded prawns served with chips for just £13.

The site also boasts a range of soft and alcoholic drinks to choose from – with wine, prosecco, San Pellegrino and a selection of locally-sourced beers and spirits available to take away.
