Popular fish and chip shop The Fishmarket in Newhaven has taken the decision to close their doors after a member of their team tested positive with the virus.

In order to protect their customers and staff the Newhaven chippie is closing its doors until further notice.

They have told the public to stay safe and will look forward to seeing them again “soon”.

The Fishmarket which operates as a takeaway, restaurant and oyster bar reopened on December 27 for takeaways.

However, posting on Saturday evening on Facebook, The Fishmarket said: “We have been made aware of a positive covid19 test result from a single member of our team at The Fishmarket NH.

"To ensure the safety of all our valued customers, staff & delivery partners, we will be closed until further notice.

"In the meantime, take care, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

The Fishmarket has been contacted for comment.
