Nominations are now open for the 4th Annual Asian Restaurant Awards (Scotland)

Last year’s awards ceremony saw Dishoom, Maki & Ramen and St John’s Curry Club all pick up awards for their contribution to Scotland’s lively Asian food scene.

Held in association with Just Eat, the Asian Restaurant Awards will be returning to Scotland online on 7th December and nominations have now opened for a whole range of categories until 20th November. As well as straddling a diverse range of Asian cuisines, including Japanese, Bangladeshi, Thai, Middle Eastern and Indian, there are also awards available for Chef of the Year, Local Hero and Newcomer of the Year.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, typical judging methods have been put on pause - with the Asian Restaurant Awards’ leading panel of judges unable to individually visit restaurants. As a result, decisions this year will be entirely based on customer nominations, with judges encouraging locals and Asian food fans across Scotland to get involved and support their favourite restaurants as much as possible.

Judge Pat Chapman, Curry Club founder, said: "Things have always been tough for the curry restaurant sector with immigration regulations and competition, and the virus has enforced closures (some permanent) and loss of income, so this year, more than ever, it is a pleasure to be involved in these uplifting ceremonies.”

This year’s awards ceremony will be the fourth so far, having been established by the Asian Catering Federation in 2016. Since then, the Asian Restaurant Awards have become a star-studded affair with the likes of BBC’s Samantha Simmonds presenting awards to the best Asian restaurants throughout Scotland.

Chairman of the Asian Restaurant Awards, Yawar Khan, said: “During these difficult times, we need more support from the government, and the Asian Restaurant Awards 2020 are a wonderful way to give recognition to hardworking people in the Asian food industry.”

The awards will be broadcast live from Edinburgh’s Sheraton Hotel on NTV Europe (Sky 780) between 6-8pm on Monday 7th December.
