In a post on Facebook, the Athletic Arms’ Kevin and Claire McGhee said they have “jumped at the chance” to help restore the venue.

They wrote: “We’ve been asked to open the Caley on behalf of Heineken (our shared landlord).

“We jumped at the chance to return her to her former glory.

“There will be changes to stocking agreements as the lease conditions have changed.

“We’re aiming for this side of Christmas depending on staff and building condition.

“Look out for social media updates directly once we gain access to them. Kev and Claire.”

Fans of the Caley Sample Room rejoiced at the news, sharing their delight on Facebook.

Viv Haig wrote: “Great news. The Sample room used to be a great bar. I stopped going a long time ago as it really went downhill after the seating got changed and it was more of a wine bar. Used to be a great place to watch the Six Nations. This end of town needs more good pubs.”

Karan Nagpal commented: “Brilliant news! Can't wait to see what you do with the place!”

Dave McLaren said: “Good news and good luck. It was a shadow of its old self the last few years.”
