The ice cream business has found a new home at the site formerly home to Monny’s Ice Cream – on Brighton Place.

Its team has also revealed it will be opening up with an expanded range of gelato flavours and treats in time for summer.

In a post on its Facebook page, Oscar’s declared: "So, the cat is out of the bag. We are very excited to announce that we are the new leaseholders of 3 Brighton Place, formerly Monny’s Ice Cream.

“We have been looking for a Portobello home for Oscar’s Gelato for a long time, so when this opportunity arose it was the perfect solution. We will be making some interior changes to allow space for our large selection of flavours of artisan gelato and we will be offering a selection of sundaes, gelato cake, shakes, crepes and great coffee.

"Our gelato will be made on the premises and we will continue to use the very best suppliers and the finest ingredients, including locally-produced milk and fresh fruit in order to make the best quality gelato possible.”

Oscar’s Gelato owner, Harem Murdochy, said he was “really excited” to be taking over the Portobello spot.

He said: "We had never opened anything on a High Street before because we are such good friends with Monny’s and didn’t want to be a competitor, but they decided to move on and work on new plans, so it’s a good move.

"We’re very happy for them and they were really loved by all the people in Portobello – we hope we will be just as popular with the locals as they were.”

Another Oscar’s Gelato site is also planned to arrive in Stockbridge this spring, Mr Murdochy said.
