Say bon jour to new French cafe, Le Petit Cafe, in Edinburgh
Hailing from Normandy in France, Marion and Mathias fell in love with Scotland - moving here in 2019. Their dream to open a cafe in Edinburgh was realised when a spot on Morrison Street in the Old Town became available, with the couple taking over 32 Morrison Street in August.
Since then, the couple have been working away in the background to try and recreate a distinctly French experience for their customers. Le Petit Cafe opened on 13th October, serving an array of sweet and savoury breads and pastries for morning customers, before moving to a lunch and afternoon menu of galettes galore.
Their breakfast menu boasts a range of options to make a perfect start to the day, with fresh orange juice and hot drinks available alongside croissants, pain au chocolat, baguette or muesli presented as part of traditional French, Healthy, Classic or Express options.
For cheese-loving customers, galettes - savoury French crepes - are an ideal choice. “I describe them as being like a sort of French pizza” said co-owner Mathias, adding that Le Petit Cafe presents these with a range of toppings and cheeses such as emmental, cheddar and camembert. One such savoury crepe offering sees the couple pay tribute to their previous home of Normandy, with a Normandy galette featuring grated emmental, caramelised apple, camembert, chicken and honey.
Sweet-toothed fans can choose from a range of crepes layered with toppings such as Lotus Biscoff crumble and salted caramel butter, M&Ms and nutella, while those in search of a lunch filled with leafy greens are will not go hungry with a range of salads to choose from.
Le Petit Cafe is open daily from 8-7pm at 32 Morrison Street, Edinburgh EH3 8BJ.
