Meryl Streep joins Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short on Only Murders in the Building season 3.

Meryl Streep has joined the season three cast of who-done-it favourite Only Murders in the building. The announcement was made by series star Selena Gomez in a video posted to Instagram and TikTok sending fans into a frenzy.

The video feature’s Paul Rudd who was revealed as a surprise cast member for season three during the season two finale, as well as the core trio we all know and love Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin.

It is not yet known whether Streep will appear in a guest, recurring or series regular capacity. The show has become known for their star studded line-ups with Tina Fey also popping up in certain episodes, playing a key role in season two of the show. Cara Delevingne also played a love interest for Gomez in season two.

Selena Gomez hasn’t been shy about her love for Streep in the past. Just last month, when Vogue asked her to name her dream Only Murders guest star, she said she "would reach for the biggest of all… probably Meryl or someone really amazing like that."

The beloved comedy-drama series follows Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), neighbours at an Upper West Side building called the Arconia, who bond over a love of true crime podcasts and end up starting their own as mysterious murders happen around them.

Season two was left on a huge cliffhanger, not least because Paul Rudd surprised fans when he turned up. It’s been reported that Season three will pick up as Charles, Oliver and Mabel work to figure out who killed Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). The Season two finale saw Glenroy die on stage while performing in a Broadway play opposite Charles and directed by Oliver.

The previous two seasons have seen spring/summer releases, however, the big tease has fans more desperate than ever for the newest season than ever. Unfortunately there is no release date, but filming for the show has begun so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.

It’s unknown which residents of the Arconia will return for the third season but fans are hopeful the likes of Nathan Lane and Jackie Hoffman will feature.
