The latest trend taking over Twitter aims to showcase just how much 2020 has taken us on a path none of us were prepared for.

What’s the My Plans vs 2020 trend?

The meme shows people taking to Twitter to show how their plans for 2020 have well and truly been ruined.

The trend sees a Twitter user post two pictures, one captioned “my plans” and the other captioned “2020”.

The pictures tend to take inspiration from pop culture, films and TV shows, wherein the picture acting as the “my plans” is someone (or something) enjoying themselves who doesn’t realise something bad is going to happen to them.

The picture on the 2020 side of the Tweet is the person (or thing) that does the bad thing to ruin the person’s plans.

For example, one person joined in on the trend by referencing American Psycho.

They used a picture of Paul Allen (played by Jared Leto) to represent the “my plans” and a picture of Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) in his clear plastic suit about to murder Paul as the representative for 2020.

How to get involved

Unlike other internet trends and challenges, this one does not require you to be tagged or nominated in order to take part.

All you have to do is think of a funny tweet and simply post it.

The best Tweets using this trend

YouTube star and singer songwriter Dodie got in on the trend, posting: “My plans (a picture of her performing in front of an ecstatic crowd) / 2020 (a close up picture of Dodie crying)”.

Someone else took inspiration from the American remake of The Office, using a screenshot of Kevin holding a large pot of chilli to represent their plans, and a screenshot of Kevin, moments later, when he drops the chilli all over the floor to represent 2020.

Another posted a picture of a dinosaur enjoying the sun and nibbling on some leaves to represent their plans, and a picture of meteors hitting the earth to represent 2020.

Taking inspiration from the 2003 classic film Freaky Friday, someone posted a picture of Anna and Tess (Linsday Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis) smiling to represent their plans, and a picture of the woman who puts the curse on them to represent 2020.
