The 822ft peak in Holyrood Park came top ahead of the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim; the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol; and Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, in the Yorkshire Dales. The walk to the Fairy Pools, on the Isle of Skye, makes up the top five.
The study, by outdoor specialists Millets, looked at Tripadvisor reviews which included the words "beautiful", "pretty" and "picturesque" to reveal the most beautiful walks in the UK.
Arthur’s Seat, made from ancient volcanic rock, is one of Edinburgh s most famous and popular landmarks, described by Robert Louis Stevenson as "a hill for magnitude, a mountain in virtue of its bold design".
The walk to the summit is a fairly easy one and rewards walkers with panoramic views of Scotland’s capital and beyond.
The study revealed that over 1600 people had described the walk as either "beautiful", "pretty" or "picturesque", more than any other UK walk.
The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, named the fifth most beautiful walk in the study, is a natural waterfall phenomenon situated in Glen Brittle. Known for the vivid crystal blue hue of its water, as well as the various wildlife that frequent the area, it had 1063 beautiful walk reviews.
Kiera Baxter, Millets Marketing Exec, said: "Arthurs Seat is a stunning walk, offering 360-degree views across the city of Edinburgh and the Lothians. With many sights to view along the way, such as St. Anthony’s Chapel, the Salisbury Crags and Duddingston Loch, it is no surprise that the research has found the walk to be the most beautiful in the UK.
"With several routes available, a walk to Arthur's Seat is suitable for every level of walker. For the easiest ascent, we recommend climbing from the east where a grassy slope rises above Dunsapie Loch. Whilst if you’re looking for a challenge head across the grass to the end of Salisbury Crags, where a steep path leads up Nether Hill."
Other Scottish walks also made the top 50. Ben Nevis comes in at number 17, while the Falls of Clyde in South Lanarkshire (35th); the Silver Sands of Morar (38th); and the West Highland Way (46th) also feature on the list of most beautiful walks.
