The chance to take the perfect picture of the Northern Lights is one that any photographer worth their salt is going to bend over backwards to take, and it was this chance that Edinburgh man Lee Howard grabbed with both hands.

Lee Howard, a 49-year-old photographer, travelled out to beauty spot Belhaven Bay in East Lothian to wait until 4 am for this magical photo.

"Some people say it’s dedicated, I think it’s probably a bit crazy!” he laughed.

Lee specialises in astro and landscape photography but has found that this picture has resonated with his customers more than others.

He continued: “The Bridge to Nowhere in Belhaven is a lovely spot, and a lot of people have said that it’s a place that is very personal to them.

"They’ve said that the picture really jumped out at them because of this.”

The bridge crosses the Biel River as it flows into Belhaven Bay, but when the tide comes in, the base of the bridge is submerged, stranding it in the middle of the sea.

It is an iconic and popular spot for photographers and visitors to the area alike.

Lee explains: “It’s my top tip – when you go to a place that has a lot of photographers hanging around, then stop, because something is about to happen.”
