Restaurant review: Buffalo Grill, Raeburn Place

OVER the years, I have heard countless rave reviews of Buffalo Grill and so it seemed the perfect place to satisfy my craving for steak.

Always reasonably full – perhaps thanks to the bring your own bottle with £1 corkage offer, a definite asset in recent times – we were lucky to secure a table.

With an old-school 1970s carpet and an assortment of odd pictures on the walls, the décor is certainly not customary in a restaurant, however it does evoke a comfortable feeling of being in a relative’s dated living room. The menu has hints of Western and Mexican influences with a heavy emphasis on steak.

Choosing the salsa de carne dip (£4.50) to share to start, the mixture of mince, tomatoes, peppers, onion and chilli came with tortilla chips.

Slightly disappointingly, there seemed to be a lack of mince and chilli in the dip and the chips were a touch stale.

But we were very hungry and a dash of salt helped.

My rib-eye Au Poivre (£15.25) was cooked to perfection and covered with a pleasingly peppery sauce. The Delmonico (£13.95) rib-eye opposite me was equally well cooked and both came served with chunky chips and a shredded salad.

The salad would have been happier settled on a plate as the supposed healthy option at a greasy spoon, but it is not like we had gone to Buffalo Grill for a health kick.

The service was quick, smiley and helpful, and everyone in the restaurant seemed relaxed and content as a consequence. Great for a midweek treat.
