Tommy Hilfiger is to occupy a large L-shaped 2600 square foot premises on the still-to-be-finished St James Crescent next door to fellow US fashion house Calvin Klein, according to official proposals.

The planning permission states that Tommy Hilfiger is seeking to proceed with a full fit out at the unit within the new retail complex.

Both Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein were previously located on the city’s Multrees Walk close to the new St James development.

The world-famous names will join a raft of renowned brands already confirmed for the site, including Edinburgh’s first ever Lego store and retailer Zara, which will be opening a mammoth, three-floor, 37,000 square foot store.

Clothing stores Bershka, Stradivarius and Pull & Bear will also have spaces within the main shopping area.

At 1.7 million square feet and providing 21 per cent of the city’s retail offerings, Edinburgh St James is the largest retail-led development going on anywhere in Scotland and is “set to revolutionise and regenerate the city’s East End”.

Its role within the Edinburgh community has been central to the project from day one, providing almost 1,000 days of work experience for local students and contributing more than 700 hours of volunteer work.

Edinburgh St James has also promised a selection of 30 restaurants, a luxury Everyman cinema and the city's first W hotel - W Edinburgh.

This hotel has set its sights on “providing the most luxurious and fun hotel accommodation in Edinburgh and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a cosmopolitan European capital.”

Work on the £1 billion project resumed in June after construction was ground to a halt in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Developers said last month that it was too soon to tell if the first phase of the hotel, shopping and luxury residential development’s scheduled opening of October 2020 would be required to be pushed back due to the disruption.

The Evening News has contacted Edinburgh St James for comment on the inclusion of Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein at the new complex.
