With 6,500 Google searches for “Edinburgh holidays”, Edinburgh ranks high in study showing the most googled holiday destinations for the October half-term.
Edinburgh has been voted one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations for this October half term, according to a recent survey.

The study, run by Digital marketing agency Click Consult, used Google Trends data from between June and September to show which destinations people have Googled the most.

6,500 Google searches for “Edinburgh holidays” was recorded between these dates, crowning the Capital as one of the top places for holiday-makers.

The Capital ranked 6th in the list with Cornwall taking the top spot overall.

A Click Consult spokesperson said: “Edinburgh is not only one of the greatest cities in the United Kingdom; it is one of the greatest cities in the world. You can walk the Royal Mile through Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, enjoy some of the best cuisine in the western hemisphere and even take in a spectacular view of the city from atop Arthur’s Seat.”

The list of the seven most Googled staycation destinations in the UK are:

Cornwall, South West - 40,500 Google searches Devon, South West - 27,100 Google searches Norfolk, East Anglia - 22,200 Google searches Northumberland, North East - 22,200 Google searches Lake District, Cumbria - 18,100 Google searches Edinburgh, Scotland - 6,600 Google searches Anglesey, Wales - 5,400 Google searches

Matt Bullas, CEO of Click Consult, said: “The travel industry has been one of the hardest hit by coronavirus. Restrictions to foreign countries mean that many Brits have elected to stay home rather than venture abroad this year.”

“However, search data from Google shows that there are some areas of the United Kingdom seeing huge increases in holiday-related queries including Devon, Norfolk, Cumbria, and Edinburgh.”

“It is important for tourism and hospitality businesses in these areas to ensure they have an online presence given this surge in Google searches. Bolstering their digital marketing efforts through social media, paid media and search engine optimisation, they may be able to attract families looking for a much-needed getaway this October.”

The study includes an interactive map showing each region’s most Googled destination for holidaymakers.
