Film actor and director Connery, 58, and long-term partner Fiona Ufton tied the knot in the Town Hall in Kelso, Roxburghshire, on Sunday

The new Mrs Connery has shared a series of photographs including one showing her signing the marriage register next to husband Jason, in front of the stained glass windows.

Other pictures show Fiona, in a short ivory dress and navy blue heels, sharing a kiss with her new husband, who is wearing a blue suit and tie, on the banks of the River Tweed, and sitting hand in hand on a bench.

She Tweeted her joy as "The day the stars aligned", with emojis showing a bride and groom, a diamond ring, glasses of Champagne, stars and a smiley face with red love hearts.

The Irish singer and fashion blogger, 53, added the hashtags #weddingday #bride #groom #brideandgroom and #justmarried.

Connery, the son of the late 007 icon Sir Sean Connery and Australian actress Diane Cilento, and his new wife have been together for five years and live in the Scottish Borders.

Fountainbridge-born James Bond star Sir Sean died aged 90 at his home in the Bahamas last October.

Fiona first announced the wedding in a social media post on March 16, together with a picture of her diamond and ruby ring.

She wrote: "3 weeks ago, on the 5th anniversary of our very first date, the love of my life got down on one knee & asked me to marry him. I said yes, a thousand times yes!!

"And now our next great adventure together begins. WE'RE GETTING MARRIED... in just over THREE WEEKS time!!"

On Saturday [APRIL 10] she posted: "I'm getting married in the morning" together with a link to "Get Me To The Church On Time" from the 1964 movie My Fair Lady.

She also updated her status on Facebook to "Married to Jason Connery, since 11 April 2021".

Under the Scottish Government's Covid-19 restrictions, for public health reasons no more than five people can attend a marriage ceremony in a Level Four area, including the couple, witnesses and the person conducting the ceremony. Receptions are also banned, while people across Scotland are also being urged to remain in their local areas.

However, friends took to social media to congratulate the couple.

Celebrity friend, broadcaster Grant Stott, posted: "Huge congratulations guys! Claire and I send hugs, love and happiness! Look forward to raising a long overdue glass (or two) very soon! xxx"

Actress Karen Bartke, best known as Scot Squad's Officer Karen, added: "Hearty congratulations to you - long life, good health and great happiness to you both."

Singer songwriter Steve Balsamo said: "Congratulations both" with three heart emojis.

Scots entertainer Allan Stewart added: "Mr and Mrs. Wonderful. Xxxx"

Other friends congratulated the couple and their spaniel Lily, pictured being hugged by Fiona in one of her wedding pictures, and the sunny weather.

Connery, who was born in London, attended Gordonstoun School in Moray, before attending the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

He later played James Bond creator Ian Fleming in the 1990 television drama Spymaker: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming; and the title role of Merlin in Merlin: The Quest Begins; and has also directed movies including golf tale Tommy's Honour.

Connery and Fiona, singer with wedding band Alter Ego, first appeared in public together at the premiere, which opened the 2016 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Connery is currently directing supernatural series The Rig, starring Iain Glen and Martin Compston, at First Stage Studios, established at Leith, Edinburgh, by Connery and producer Bob Last.
