Paranormal thriller that was hit in London's West End coming to Edinburgh Playhouse
2:22 A Ghost Story won Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards and now it’s coming to Edinburgh’s Playhouse
A paranormal thriller that’s been a big hit during its run in the West End is coming to the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Written by Danny Robins, creator of the BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, 2:22 A Ghost Story comes fresh from record-breaking seasons at five West End theatres with a host of acclaimed star performances - and next month it’s all set for a stint in Edinburgh.
Tickets starting from £15.60 are now available for the show at the Playhouse from Monday, May 25 to Saturday, May 30.
The supernatural thriller stars James Bye (Eastenders), Natalie Casey (2 Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps), Grant Kilburn (2:22 A Ghost Story) and Shvorne Marks (Three Little Birds).
The production began its life during summer 2021 at the Noel Coward Theatre, starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood, and where it won the WhatsOnStage award for Best Play.
In 2023/24, the thriller embarked on its first UK tour. For 2025/26 the production has been back on the road revisiting some cities due to popular demand.
Gary Lucy, who initially played Kilburn’s role of Ben though is now no longer joining the 2026 leg, said: "With Edinburgh there are too many superlatives.
“What an amazing city. When I was younger if I did the occasional job up there I would extend my stay so I could walk around and take it all in.
“It's such a fantastic, creative, historic city."

In the play, Jenny believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam isn’t having any of it.
They argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben.
The advert reads: “Can the dead really walk again? Belief and scepticism clash, but something feels strange and frightening, and that something is getting closer, so they’re going to stay up… until 2:22… and then they’ll know.”
Features set design is by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Cindy Lin, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph Sound, and illusions by Chris Fisher. It has been produced by Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons.
The Edinburgh dates follow a run at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen from May 5 to May 9.
