350 caught with weapon

POLICE caught more than 350 people carrying a weapon during personal searches in the Lothians in the last year, new figures have shown.

Officers carried out 11,387 searches between last April and March, with 354 proving “positive”.

The number of positive searches fell by 11 per cent against the previous year, when 412 of 10,232 searches yielded a weapon.

In Edinburgh, 5161 searches over the year saw 181 positive results, a 26 per cent drop on the previous year when 4903 searches uncovered 244 weapons.
