A1 part shut for four hours after two hospitalised in smash

TWO women had to be but free from their car after a three-vehicle smash on the A1 yesterday.

Police are investigating

Their Vauxhall and a VW Transporter collided at the cement works junction in Little Pinkerton, south of Dunbar, at 1.50pm.

The south bound carriageway was shut for more than four hours while the women were freed by firefighters and an investigation launched.

Both were taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance with “serious” but not life-threatening injuries.

The Transporter was travelling from the A1087 cement works junction while the women’s Vauxhall was travelling south on the A1. A Seat car was also involved.

Sgt Andy Gibb said: “One lane of the southbound carriageway remained closed for over four hours to allow for a collision investigation and recovery of the vehicles.

“Two females remain in hospital for treatment to serious injuries but are expected to make a full recovery.”

A 22-year-old man involved in the collision has been charged with a driving offence and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“We’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of the driving of any of the vehicles involved to contact police,” added Sgt Gibb.
