Anti-capitalist protestor refuses to recognise Sheriff’s authority

AN ANTI capitalist protestor remanded in custody after appearing in court on an assault charge told a sheriff: “I don’t follow your jurisdiction”.

Jamie McIlwraith, 25, told Sheriff Alisdair Noble that he didn’t accept the judge’s authority and refused to confirm his surname during a ten-minute hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The activist – who told the court that his address was tent 11, St Andrew’s Square, Edinburgh – is accused of assaulting Mark Williams on January 1, 2012, on George Street.

Sheriff Noble fixed trial on the two charges for later this month.
