Appeal after dog abandoned in Midlothian

THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog suffering from a neck wound was abandoned in Midlothian.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Friday 11 March when the female terrier crossbreed was discovered tied up with a piece of rope near the A6106 at Shawfair.

The dog, who has been named Poppy, is currently under veterinary care at the Scottish SPCA.

Senior Inspector Jenny Scott said, “Poppy is a little black and white terrier cross type who is aged between six months and a year old.

“She has a nasty wound where it is thought the rope has cut into neck, which she is currently receiving vet treatment for.

“Poppy is in good condition other than this and is a very friendly girl.

“We are asking anyone who recognises Poppy to contact us to help with our investigation.”

Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering are offences under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for avfixed period or life.
