Archive finds case notes of famed nurse

CASE notes and lecture material belonging to a world-famous city nurse who saw patients until she was 90 have been uncovered.

Amelia Nyasa Laws was born in Malawi but has strong links with the Capital where she studied, worked and ultimately died.

Her work has been unearthed by the Lothians Health Services Archives, which is now working to restore and file it.

Laws specialised in osteopathy and worked as a masseuse in a French field hospital in the First World War.

She died in Edinburgh in 1978.

Among the documents found by the NHS Lothian and Edinburgh University-funded organisation were anatomical charts, glass plate negatives, books and personal effects.

Now that they have been collected by archivists, they will be available for students and researchers to analyse in future and learn about her story.
