Army to stage three-day training exercise off Leith coast next month

The Army says the training exercise will cause minimal disruption

The army is set to carry out a three-day training exercise off the coast of Leith next month.

A “small exercise” by the Ministry of Defence will see small teams use blank ammunition and boats as they train in the Leith and Burntisland Port areas from Friday, November 23 to Monday, November 26.

The training exercise is expected to have a minimal footprint with little or no impact on locals.

Use of blank ammunition, for example, will be limited and away from members of the public where possible.

November’s training exercise is not the first time Leith has hosted military vessels, having hosted a German Navy FGS U-36 submarine last month.

An Army spokesperson said: “The exercise forms part of routine military training, enabling personnel to maintain the skills required to operate effectively in challenging terrain and environments.”
