There were fears that the fire – which had been mostly extinguished by Monday morning – could reignite if temperatures stayed high across Monday morning and afternoon, or wind conditions changed.

Footage posted by the Edinburgh Minute, showed the fire appeared to have reignited.

Fire crews had remained on the scene throughout today as they dampened down hotspots on Salisbury Crags and Holyrood Park. In a statement released on Monday, Historic Environment Scotland who manage the park, said fire crews were concerned that the fire could reignite if conditions changed.

Ealier, a spokesperson said: “Although there is no active fire visible above ground, there are concerns that hotspots could remain beneath the surface and reignite if temperatures rise or wind conditions change.”
