An investigation by the Evening News into the authors of a divisive note left on a van parked in Edinburgh's West End has led to further mystery.

The note asked that Mr Bradley Welsh remove his legally parked van and trailer, as it was “lowering the tone of the area”.

The vehicle is used to transport essential sports equipment for the charity Helping Hands, who provide free boxing and football sessions for 3600 children in some of the city’s most disadvantaged areas.

The elusive authors of the note wrote that Mr Welsh’s trailer should be kept “for the IND estate, not the Newtown [sic]”, before signing off “Bill and Brian”.

While the pair could not be found for comment, two neighbours who preferred not to be named offered another explanation.

“I don’t think Brian and Bill exist,” said one neighbour. “There’s no Brian and Bill who live around here.”

A second neighbour later shared this same theory.

However, it is possible that the affable scribes have not yet met their neighbours – the note referred to their flat as “new”.

The atmosphere at any imminent flat-warming party could be icy, to say the least.
