Autoimmune disease hits many parts of body

SjÖgren’s Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which white blood cells attack moisture-producing glands.

Typical symptoms include dry eyes and dry mouth, as well as dysfunction in the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and the central nervous system.

Although the risk is considered small, patients with extreme fatigue and joint pain have a higher chance of developing lymphoma.

The condition is named after Dr Henrik Sjögren, a Swedish medic who first identified the disease in 1933.
